HIST 4390 Middle East

The online catalog allows you to quickly and easily search for books, as well as other materials, that the UALR Ottenheimer Library owns. The Library of Congress (LC) Subject Heading for the region is Middle East. It can be subdivided by more specific topics like Agriculture, Armed Forces, or Politics and Government. It is also possible to seach using the heading Arab Countries.

   A few other tips for searching: 

• Try the name of a particular nation. Given the political changes in the area over the past few centuries, consider searching historic names, as well as the current one.
• Search for the name of a political leader or activisit involved in your area of interest.  Remember to search people using the last name first.
• Search for the name of a political organization.

Reference sources, located on the fourth floor of the UALR Ottenheimer Library, are not available to check out. You are welcome, however, to make photocopies. You also have the option of scanning pages and sending them to your email account as a PDF file using copier #3 on the first floor.

The best means of searching for materials not in Ottenheimer Library is WorldCat - also known as OCLC - It provides information on worldwide library holdings of books, periodicals, theses, dissertations, media, and other material. If you know of a book you need that Ottenheimer Library does not own, you can search it here to see which other libraries have copies. In many cases, our Interlibrary Loan department can obtain the book for you from another library.

If you are searching from off-campus, you can request that circulating materials be pulled for you and held at the Circulation Desk.  Select the Request button and fill in the necessary information.  Please allow at least 24 hours for the materials to be pulled.  You will receive an email when your items are ready for checkout.
