Pura Belpre Latino Cultural Literature Winners

About This Award

Pura Belpre Award Medal

Named for Pura Belpré, the first Latina librarian at the New York Public Library, this award is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth. It is co-sponsored by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), and the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking (REFORMA), an ALA affiliate.  Established in 1996 as a biennial award, it became an annual award in 2008.  Honor books for this award may be found on the ALA website:

Books in Other Libraries

Few libraries will have all the books you need at the time you need them.

The Other Libraries link on the UALR Ottenheimer Library Web site helps you locate books in area libraries.  Select a library from the list and search their online catalog for the book you want.
