ANTH 3313 - Archaeology

Searching the Online Catalog for the UALR Ottenheimer Library

When searching the UALR Ottenheimer Library online catalogthe Library of Congress (LC) Subject Headings recommends using a variety of subject headings including:

  • Archaeology
  • Excavations (Archaeology)
  • Historic Sites
  • Rock paintings

The subjects can then be broken down by geographic areas of the world to focus the search:

  • Archaeology - Greece
  • Excavations (Archaeology) - Andes Region

Keep in mind that sometimes you will only find a chapter about a specific topic so you may need to search by a broader subject and then look at the indexes of the books on the shelf in that call number area.

WorldCat: Searching Other Libraries' Catalogs

If the UALR Ottenheimer Library does not have the books you need, it is possible to search libraries across the country for books of interest using WorldCat, also known in the library world as OCLC.

Materials found in WorldCat can be requested via Interlibrary Loan. Not every book in the database can be obtained from another library, but it is worth the attempt. The success rate is very good. Just do not wait until the last minute. It can take up to 10 business days for materials to be shipped from the loaning library.
