Newspaper Tips

Newspapers are not considered academic/scholarly sources, but they are frequently the place for the most recent information.

They are best used for:

  • Recent statistics
  • Geographically focused information
  • Quotes from recent presentations
  • Comments from government officials
  • Editorial commentaries

Potential Newspaper Sources

While newspapers are not considered scholarly sources, they do provide a different perspective on topics and sometimes are the only access to the historic societal view of a topic.  Ottenheimer Library offers access to hundreds of newspapers via various databases.
