It is advised that you gather some background information on the nation you will be researching, even if you already know the individuals and issues you want to address. All of these resources will offer additional resources or statistics that will help support your argument. Several also provides maps that could be used to better describe issues in your paper.

Country Studies

Country Studies are written to assist members of the US military while they are deployed overseas. Most nations are represented if the United States has diplomatic/military ties with the country. The hard copies are shelved in the same area of the US Publications collection on the first floor (Call Number: US Doc D101.22: 550-).

The more recent versions of most nations are also on the Web through the Library of Congress website.

NationMaster

NationMaster is an enormous compilation of of data from sources like the CIA World Factbook, the United Nations, and the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development. It also offers the opportunity to easily generate maps and graphs.

U.S. Department of State

The U.S. Department of State also offers information on foreign countries through their Web page. This site offers full-text access to multiple publications like U.S. Bilateral Relations Fact Sheets, Human Rights Reports, and Country Commercial Guides

World Constitutions Illustrated

World Constitutions Illustrated focuses on the constitutional and political development of every country in the world including:

   the current constitution in its original language,

   commentary about the constitutional development,

   reference books on the development of government,

   links to scholarly articles that discuss the constitutional    and political development of the country,

   links to online sources that directly relate to the    constitution or the government,

   and a bibliography of other select constitutional works.

Corruption Perceptions Index

The Corruption Perceptions Index measures the perceived levels of public sector corruption in countries worldwide.
